I think that people were so set on one method of crossing the fence that they would hear other ideas but not truly listen to what other people had to say. It was not until the second day of Lizzy suggesting the crowd surfing idea that we finally incorporated it into our plan. I think our biggest problem was people not being able to get past their own ideas and open up to new things. Also, I think were getting annoyed with the same people taking control so they stopped listening and would just sit there and not play an active role in the activity.
I don't think anyone was as aerodynamic as Kedra. If they were, we could've just tossed everyone over one at a time.
I was helping lift people over, that was it. I just went with the ideas people toss out. We totally would have had it, but after we got everyone over I would've had to do some crazy backflip or something, but I totes could've done it.
I agree with what Amy said. It seemed like people would throw out ideas but we never actually tried the new ways until Friday, which was our third day with the activity. Also, people seemed to be getting bored and less involved because there was nothing they could really do until we tried the crowdsurfing idea.
This activity was a challenge for our class. I feel that people in class just got bored and didn't want to put effort in because we kept having to re-start and that frustrated a lot of people, including myself, and it seemed by the end no one was having fun and it was just a burden to get done. Friday was fun though. Crowd surfing was defiantly worth it. ~Jen Searle
I feel like we kinda wasted time with only one option for me it was not the best option with me and Tyler on the ground getting treated like stairs. But I think that we should of used other peoples ideas because we only used that "stair" idea and after a while people saw that this option was not working and just sitting around and not paying any attention because they knew that it would not work in the long run. Next time we do this we should have everyone say a idea so everyone gets to speak and be involved. -Tim Jeronimus-
I feel like we became a little narrow minded in our approach. After coming up with the stair idea, we didn't really try to think of alternatives, and we attempted to use this method over and over again. After several tries and getting super close but not yet making it and having to start over probably frustrated and bored many people. However, the crowdsurfing idea turned out to be fun, and people started paying more attention and getting involved because it was a new way. ~Marlisa Wang
I think everyone had some kind of pressure to do this activity. because we were trying to not touch the fence but also to not to hurt who was being to help us to go over the fence. And at some point we maybe take to much serious to use only one idea. But I think we learn something from this for next time.
I feel like this was a challenge because of the way it was set up. If someone moved the rope just slightly, everyone would have to go back, which made a lot of people really annoyed. After we thought of the stair idea, I feel like people just decided to stick with it and didn't try to voice any other ideas. Next time, after we see an idea not working, we should think of a new idea sooner and not just stick to one idea. The good thing is, if we had just a few more minutes on Friday I think we would have finished.
I definitely agree with Amy. She couldn't be more true. But I could tell that the ones who chose to lead were honestly doing their best to help the group. In my opinion, it was never that we weren't being "serious." Some people made mistakes. Some people are unable to do certain things. That doesn't mean that we didn't succeed because we weren't listening. I think if people have ideas, they should definitely articulate them, so everybody can hear and think about it. Michelle Kim
This activity doesn't seem all that hard. You look at the rope and think that it's gonna be a piece of cake. On the first day we were all determined to get over it, and we had a lot of motivation. But one mistake led to another and everyone got really frustrated. We had good ideas except many people were set on the stepping on the back method. Finally we did the crowd surfing idea and I think that that worked well. I would be lying if I said I was positive the whole time. I know I was frustrated because the same people were trying to make all the decisions and maybe not listening to other ideas. If we continue this activity though I have confidence that we will all get over. -Ali Murauskis
I feel like this activity was vert frustrating for everyone. We got so close every time we did it, but at the end people would get over confident and we would hit the rope. Also the crowd surfing was put out there in the very beginning, but was rejected. We need to learn to be more open to other people's ideas; not just the "leaders' ideas. Our class needs to work on patience and working together a little more.
It was a challenge to work together because everyone was distracted in their own groups. You could see the frustration in everyone and I felt like the positive energy was missing. Although we tried many ways for what works for our class, I think the last method our class did was working for us. It was just that we ran out of time. I think our class is ready to start again with new energy because this is a new week!
This activity was a bit eye opening. It showed that maybe sometimes it may not be best to have a set leader. I think that if we would have listened to everyone's thoughts and ideas it would had been much more productive. -Erin Peiss
This activity seemed simple at first- if we could get our entire class over an 8-foot wall without any problems, how hard could this be? But once we got started, we realized that there were a lot more ways to try this one, and to get over, you really couldn't rely on yourself. In the other activity, you could pull yourself up to the bar at a certain point, but in this one, you had to rely on your peers to get you over. I think we had problems with participation and communication, but we can do better. In the future, I think people who have ideas need to step up and find a way to try/execute them, and we need everyone to be focused on the same task rather than goofing off.
I think our class could have accomplished this activity however when everyone was yelling over each other trying to get us to work to together and get motivated, I could tell no one (including me) felt motivated. I'm not saying the leaders did a bad job, but i did feel like at times they were kind of yelling at us to listen. (but i do think the leaders did a good job of getting everyone to try and listen)
There were a lot of different ideas and not much communication. I think that near the end we were starting to grasp the concept of the activity. I think that we all just need to work on communicating more as a whole.
I think it was a challenge for our class because in the beginning we would be motivated and really conscious about our actions and what we were doing, but once it was like half way through you kind of lose the motivation you had at the beginning, so i think that's when mistakes were being made. And we also didn't do new ideas till Friday so that might've slowed down our ability to get over the wall. -Sarah Bounab
I think this activity challenged our classes leadership. By this i mean that because we've had the same people step up every time, other people this that what they say isn't going to matter. Sure, there's going to be those kids that are more in the leadership role, but that doesn't mean they have to hold that position the entire time. It took us two days for someone to finally feel comfortable enough to speak up and i think that's because everyone was constantly being told to shut up and focus. Overall, I think we took this too seriously but at the same time not seriously enough.
I think this activity showed how even things that seem simple can be super frustrating. I think that some people were throwing out ideas and they were getting pushed to the side or shot down without even giving them a shot. I also agree that maybe some people were getting tired of hearing the same people or the same thing being said over and over again. Sometimes it takes a switch in leadership to finish an activity and I think this might have been one of those times. -Taylor Wienold
This activity seemed really challenging to everyone because, some people had ideas and wouldn't step up, and we were only trying one option. And personally, i felt really bad for stepping on two people. It felt extremely rude, even though it had to be done at the moment to get the task at hand done. I feel like we totally would of had it at the end on Friday, when we were ten people away from being done, because by then it seemed everyone wanted to help out, and get this activity done together.
I think this task was so challenging because we were only trying one method and we kept doing it even though it clearly wasn't working in the best way for us. I think this is why most people got frustrated because we knew we weren't using the best method and after awhile of it not working, we just wanted to get it over with and it wasn't fun anymore. But when we tried a new method at the end, everyone got excited again and wanted to help so it made it easier. I think this activity showed us to be open to all new ideas when things aren't going the way we want them to. -Lauren Burke
This task was challenging for us because at times people were not focused on the activity at hand and were not really ready when their turn came. And as time went on, people got more frustrated and it became harder to concentrate as a group on getting everyone over. I think that when we tried the carrying idea it helped a lot because it offered a new way to do things.
I think it was challenging more mentally than anything else. We kept trying one thing over and over again, even when it failed numerous times. It was time to try something else, but it wasn't happening, so that was the frustrating part. yelin ha
I think it was just a lack of wanting to do it. The first day we thought we were all ready but then we didnt make it and I think it made us feel discouraged. Thats when most of us started giving up. Bu then we wanted to get it just done with that we didnt put much thought into it. - Valentina Carrero
